What are GLP-1 medications?
GLP-1 medications are a type of treatment that help manage weight and blood sugar levels. They work by mimicking a natural hormone in your body that regulates hunger and fullness. These medications can help reduce your appetite, slow down digestion, and support long-term weight loss when used alongside a healthy diet and exercise. They're typically taken as injections or pills and have shown significant results in helping people with obesity or type 2 diabetes lose weight and improve their overall health.
Which GLP-1 medications will be offered as part the Mississippi Obesity Alliance (MOA) Program?
Revival Health will offer GLP-1 injections and oral medication kits for weight management. These include compounded versions of GLP-1 medications with the same active ingredients as Ozempic® and Wegovy®.
Your provider will meet with you to determine the right treatment for your health care goals.
How much do the medications cost under this program?
Patients will pay $249 for a 2-milliliter supply of GLP-1, compared to the typical price of $800 to $1,100.
What is compounded semaglutide?
Compounded semaglutide is a GLP-1 drug commonly prescribed as part of the MOA program. Compounded semaglutide is used, along with a reduced calorie diet and exercise, to help patients with obesity manage their weight. It is also prescribed to help patients with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar levels.
Compounded semaglutide is a customized pharmaceutical formulation of the medication semaglutide prepared by Revival Health. It is available through participating clinics and online via Sesame.
Compounded semaglutide may be prescribed to adults with obesity (with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater) or overweight adults (with a BMI of 27 kg/m2 or greater) who also have weight-related medical problems such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, or cardiovascular disease.
In addition, compounded semaglutide may be prescribed to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

If you experience an unexplained rash, swelling, stomach pain, difficulty breathing, decreased urination, changes in vision, or itchy skin while taking compounded semaglutide, seek medical attention immediately. These are early signs of a potentially severe adverse reaction to the medication.
Talk to your healthcare provider about any medication you are currently taking or any medical conditions you have been previously diagnosed with before starting treatment with any form of GLP-1 medication.
What precautions should I follow before taking GLP-1 medication?
It is crucial to discuss your medical history, allergies, and any other medications you are taking with your healthcare provider. This includes prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and dietary supplements, as they may interact with compounded semaglutide.
Do not use compounded semaglutide if you have a history of:
Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
Allergic reactions to semaglutide
